Leopold Schloßmann, a tailor, and his wife Berta, née Heumann, originated from Öttingen. They came to Gunzenhausen around the end of the 1870's and their three children were born here.

The family rented accommodation at Marktplatz 24 from the Gauckler family until 1882 and they ran a gentlemen's outfitters shop there.

They then moved to Marktplatz 31, the house of the cutler Böttler, and opened their shop there.

After the death of Leopold Schloßmann, his widow and both daughters moved back to Öttingen, where the family came from.  All three women are registered there as of 1939.

Dr. Ostenrieder of the Öttingen Town Archives wrote to us about Bettine Schloßmann:

In our documents she was called "Betty".  Apparently she moved to live with her widowed mother (who originated from Öttingen) in 1939.  They (Betty, her sister Mina and their mother Bertha) lived in the Reithausgasse, formerly Litera house number C28.  There is a note that Betty had "a stiff knee".  There is no mention of any professional activity for her whereas her sister Mina was employed as "housekeeper" or "cook" in various places.
The mother died on 10.3.1942 and her grave is to be found at the Jewish Cemetery in Öttingen. The two Schloßmann sisters were deported just days after the funeral.
